New York Rangers 2009 NsHL Cup Champion New York City, NY - Mark Streit's power play goal with 2:21 remaining in the third period capped an amazing comeback for the Rangers. The Rangers were trailing 4-2 with under eight minutes remaining in regulation. Jaroslav Spacek netted a power play to start the comeback. Three minutes later, Daniel Briere scored the game tying goal. Not quite two minutes after tying the game, the Rangers found themselves on the power play yet again. Streit's blast found its way to the back of the net, and the Rangers held on to secure their first NsHL championship. The Oilers had an impressive comeback of their own. Down 2-1 entering the third, the Oilers scored three goals to take a 4-2 lead. It looked as if the Oilers were going to force a sixth game in Edmonton, but it wasn't to be. They were unable to kill off either third period penalty, and their dream season came to end. "You have to give this Edmonton team a lot of credit," said an ESN scout. "They went through Anaheim, Vancouver and Los Angeles to get to the finals, which is incredible. I don't think many people thought they would win a round this year, but here they were. The Rangers were simply too much for them to handle. Rich DeChellis did an outstanding job putting this team together, and the acquisition of Scott Gomez sent this team to new heights. Next year's edition might look a little different, but Ranger fans will look back on this team rather fondly."
